Academic council – Association of Clinical Biochemists & Microbiologists (ACBM)

The Academic council is an off shoot of the Association of Clinical Biochemists & Microbiologists (ACBM). The council aims to foster academic activities for the members, aspiring laboratory professionals and scientists and provide a free platform to showcase and share innovative ideas. The council intends to pursue this goal by organising scientific meetings, Training, Research help, contests and knowledge sharing interactive sessions. The council is authorised to join hands with various other national and international associations/bodies/ boards for the academic uplifting of members. The council is supported by eminent patron and advisors who are stalwarts in the field.

The council is also authorised to prescribe qualifications and norms for appointment/promotion of its members through MC and sending those recommendations for various govt agencies//Ministries/bodies.

2014

ACBM was formed as a state level association by a group of professionals in the city of Pune, who felt the need to have a platform to address their professional concerns that were getting sidelined or ignored for reasons that still prevail.

2015

2017

April 14th: A resolution was passed and the bylaws were changed to convert ACBM from being a state level association to becoming a National level association. ??? This was done to allow like minded professional fraternities from across India to come and become a member of ACBM.

June: Hundreds of laboratory professionals joins ACBM to fight together against the unjustified ruling given by MCI to NABL and NABL then taking a wrong stand.

June 29th: ACBM files a WP in DHC, against the MCI letter and also against NABL on the contentious notice issued by MCI and implemented by NABL.

Sept 8th: ACBM invited to the 10th National CEA meeting, where it pitches its relevant points in front of the committee and the committee unanimously decides that a Sub-committee should be constituted to look into the issue of Human Resources in Medical Diagnostic Laboratory in the CEA.

Sept 15th: ACBM created history by winning a legal battle against the erstwhile MCI  and NABL through a landmark judgment on a writ petition filed at the Delhi High Court against an order passed by MCI through NABL that worked against the professional rights of the fraternity members of ACBM.

Sept 21st: ACBM Invited to be a part of the 1st Sub-committee meeting and the Committee records that in a laboratory setup, both MSc, MSc-PhD professionals as well as MD qualified professionals should work together and continue their services.

Dec 22nd: Quashing of review petition filed by members of Indian Association of Medical Microbiologists (IAMM) on the Sept 2017 DHC verdict citing that the court had come up to the verdict upon consultation with the councilors of MCI, a regulatory council.

2018

May 29th: WP filed against the CEA Gazette Notification issued Dt.18-05-2018 in DHC.

Aug 19th: 2nd AGM held in Pune.

2019

July 21st: ACBM conducted its first national level election and elected a new set of executive council members, with representation from all across India.

3rd AGM held prior to election and change of guard.

2020

Jan 6th:  DGHS invites ACBM to hear on CEA Gazette Notification issued Dt.18-05-2018, based on DHC order. ACBM presents its clarification to the DGHS in the presence of MCI. DGHS requests all stakeholders including MCI to submit their representation in writing. ACBM duly submits its representation to DGHS in writing.

Feb 14th: The new Gazette notification allows MSc and MSc-PhD qualified professionals to independently sign laboratory reports in their respective discipline.

March 1st: ACBM & The Department of Biochemistry, P.D.Hinduja Hospital & MRC organized a workshop entitled “Technical advancement in Therapeutic Drug Monitoring (TDM)”  at Hinduja Hospital, Mumbai.

July 18th : ACBM & Priyadarshini Institute of Engineering and Technology (PIET) organized the webinar  entitled “ Laboratory testing and health: COVID 19 pandemic.

2021

Oct 2nd: e-Carnival’21 conducted with academic and cultural event competition on Poster presentation, Slogan writing, Short Animation/ AV presentation.

Oct 3rd: 4th AGM conducted along with e-Samasat’21

Introduction of ACBM’’s Lifetime Achievement Award, presented to:

  1. Dr. A. S. Kanagasabhapaty for the year 2019.
  2. Dr. A. Raizada (Late) for the year 2020.
  3. Dr. T. Ashavaid for the year 2021.

Introduction of ACBM’s Extraordinary Healthcare Crusader Award, awarded to – Dr. R. Swarnakar.
